When trying to figure out what I wanted to pursue in college, all I knew was that I loved God, music, and graphics. I had always been heavily involved in ministries at my church, so what made more sense than to go into “full-time ministry.” Or at least that’s what I was advised by other leaders in the church. So I got a ministry degree from a Christian university, and after graduating was hired by a church to help lead the worship and arts ministry teams.
About 4 years into the job, I knew God was telling me that I needed to make a change. Not just to step away from the job I had at that church, but to step out of that career of ministry altogether. The only problem was that I didn’t know what else I could do. The responsibilities I had seemed to be a perfect fit according to my gifting, but something was just not right. I was very confused, and couldn’t figure it out on my own. I needed help.
God planned a divine intervention on my behalf. Through a separate circumstance, I met with Dave Jones. During the course of our conversation, Dave referred me to the Reset process, and then helped me through it. The process really helped to bring clarity about who God made me to be, and to help clearly identify the passions God put in my heart. It gave me the clarity of thought and the confidence to make the changes God was calling me to make.
Later that year, I opened my own business teaching music and doing free-lance graphic design. The business is going great! My wife and I are very involved in our new church as volunteers and loving it! I’m still able to make a living doing what I love, having much more time for my family. This may sound strange, but in many ways I feel like I’ve had more opportunities for authentic relational ministry through my business and volunteering than I had when I was in “full-time ministry.” God has blessed us and we’re excited about what is ahead for our family.
